บทคัดย่อ

          ภายหลังจากอุบัติขึ้นของพระพุทธเจ้า และพระพุทธศาสนา ในดินแดนที่เรียกว่า “ชมพูทวีป” เมื่อ 2600 กว่าปีมาแล้ว เริ่มตั้งแต่พระพุทธองค์ทรงออกเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนา ตั้งแต่นั้นเป็นต้นมา มีพระสงฆ์สาวกจำนวนมากช่วยในการเผยแผ่ สืบทอดกันมาโดยลำดับ พระพุทธศาสนาได้เข้ามาสู่ประเทศไทย หลังการทำสังคายนาครั้งที่ 3 เมื่อ พ.ศ. 234 ได้มีการส่งพระสมณทูตไปเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนายังดินแดนต่าง ๆ แบ่งออกเป็น 9 สาย โดยการอุปถัมภ์ของพระเจ้าอโศกมหาราช กษัตริย์อินเดียในสมัยนั้น ซึ่งสมณทูตที่ได้รับการคัดเลือกให้ไปดินแดนสุวรรณภูมิคือสายที่ 8 โดยการนำของ พระโสณเถระ และพระอุตตรเถระ จนทำให้พระพุทธศาสนาเจริญรุ่งเรืองตามลำดับ และในกาลต่อมาได้แผ่ขยายเข้าสู่เมืองแพร่ ทำให้คนเมืองแพร่นับถือพระพุทธศาสนามากถึง 99.18 เปอร์เซ็นต์ (ข้อมูลจากสำนักงานสถิติจังหวัดแพร่) ของประชากรทั้งหมดในเมืองแพร่ บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อให้ทราบถึงเรื่องราวเกี่ยวกับพระพุทธศาสนาเข้ามาสู่เมืองแพร่    

Abstract

         In the land known as Jambudvīpa, over 2600 years ago, after the occurrence of the Buddha and Buddhism, the Lord Buddha and his disciples’ mission was the Buddhist propagation. Then, Buddhism was continually inherited, and finally was entered Thailand. After the 3^rd edification in B.E.234, the Buddhist ambassadors, divided into 9 lines by the patronage of King Ashoka the Great who was one of the famous Indian kings, were sent in order to spread Buddhism into different various countries. The Buddhist ambassadors, who  were chosen by the king in order to go to Suvarnabhumi, was the Buddhist ambassadors of line 8. Buddhism had been being prospered by Phra Son Thera and Phra Uttar Thera, the Buddhist leaders of this line and after that it was spread into Phrae province. Therefore, more than 99.18% of Phrae people consider Buddhism to be their spiritual anchor (data from Phrae Provincial Statistical Office). The purpose of this article is to inform the stories about Buddhism in Phrae province.
