ศึกษาวิเคราะห์คติความเชื่อเรื่องป่าหิมพานต์ ที่มีอิทธิพลต่องานพุทธศิลป์ล้านนา AN ANALYTICAL STUDY OF ATTITUDE TOWARDS BELIEF IN HIMMAPAN FORREST AND ITS INFLUENCE TO LANNA BUDDHIST ARTS

Abstract

  บทความวิจัยนี้ มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อทำการศึกษาคติความเชื่อเรื่องป่าหิมพานต์ที่มีอิทธิพลต่องานพุทธศิลป์ล้านนา มีจุดประสงค์ในการวิจัย 3 ข้อ คือ 1. เพื่อศึกษาความเป็นมาและคติความเชื่อเรื่องป่าหิมพานต์ 2. เพื่อศึกษาลักษณะรูปแบบงานพุทธศิลป์ล้านนา 3. เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์คติความเชื่อเรื่องป่าหิมพานต์ที่มีอิทธิพลต่องานพุทธศิลป์ล้านนา โดยศึกษาและรวบรวมข้อมูลจากพระไตรปิฎก คัมภีร์ และหนังสือหรือตำราอื่นๆ รวมไปถึงค้นคว้าข้อมูลผ่านทางอินเตอร์เน็ต ที่มีข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับความเชื่อเรื่องของป่าหิมพานต์ ตลอดจนการสอบถามจากผู้รู้ในเชิงวิชาการและผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิในสายงานพุทธศิลปกรรมและสายงานอื่นๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้อง  เพื่อนำเสนอที่มาของคติความเชื่อและอิทธิพลของป่าหิมพานต์ที่ส่งผลต่อการสร้างงานพุทธศิลป์ในดินแดนล้านนา เพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการศึกษาและการปฏิบัติพัฒนาในเชิงอนุรักษ์ต่อไป

            ผลของการศึกษา พบว่า คติความเชื่อเรื่องป่าหิมพานต์ หรือสัตว์พิสดารนั้นมีกันหลายชนชาติและความคิดนั้นอาจมาพ้องกันเข้าโดยบังเอิญ หรือให้อิทธิพลกันในทางความคิด แต่ลักษณะฝีมือทางช่างและศิลปะการตกแต่งแปลกกันออกไป มีหลักฐานปรากฏตั้งแต่ยุคอียิปต์ มีเทพรูปร่างเป็นมนุษย์หัวเป็นรูปสัตว์ต่างๆ ชนชาติกรีกในยุคต่อมาก็ปรากฎสัตว์พิสดารในตำนาน กรีกเป็นชนชาติแรกที่เชื่อมระหว่างยุโรปกับเอเชียให้เดินทางไปมาถึงกันได้ มีการแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดความเชื่อในด้านต่างๆ ความเชื่อเรื่องของสัตว์พิสดารจึงแพร่ขยายเข้ามาในเอเชีย ในส่วนของประเทศไทยเรานั้นความเชื่อเรื่องของสัตว์ประหลาดทั้งหลายนั้นมาพร้อมๆกับการเข้ามาของพระพุทธศาสนาจากอินเดีย หลักฐานที่ชัดเจนที่กล่าวถึงสัตว์หิมพานต์คือไตรภูมิกถา จักรวาลทีปนี เป็นต้น

            คติความเชื่อเรื่องป่าหิมพานต์ส่งอิทธิพลต่อการประดับตกแต่งศาสนสถานด้วยเหล่าสัตว์หิมพานต์ เพื่อเสริมแนวคิดการจำลองวัดให้เป็นดังจักรวาลให้มีความสมบูรณ์ และด้วยเชื่อว่าสัตว์เหล่านี้เป็นสัตว์วิเศษ มีอำนาจ พละกำลังมาก สามารถปกป้องคุ้มครองอาคารศาสนสถานและผู้ที่เคารพนับถือให้รอดพ้นจากภยันตรายต่างๆได้ ในอีกด้านหนึ่งเพื่อให้เกิดความสวยงามตระการตา ช่วยสร้างจินตภาพถึงดินแดนสรวงสวรรค์ ช่วยน้อมนำผู้คนให้เกิดความศรัทธาเลื่อมใส ประพฤติปฏิบัติตนอยู่ในศีลธรรม สั่งสมบุญบารมีเพื่อเป็นเครื่องช่วยนำทางให้ไปเกิดในภพภูมิที่สูงขึ้นหรือหลุดพ้นจากวัฏสงสารอันเป็นเป้าหมายสูงสุดของพุทธศาสนาคือพระนิพพาน  

    This research is aimed to study the beliefs of Himmapan forest that influences Buddhist Lanna Art. There are three purposes in this studying: 1.To study the background and beliefs about the Himmapan forest in Buddhism. 2.To study the style Buddhist Lanna Art. 3. To study the beliefs about the Himmapan forest that influences on Buddhist Lanna Art by studying and collecting information from the scriptures, and other books or texts including research through the Internet. There are information about the belief of Himmapan forest as well as inquiries from academics and experts in Buddhist art and other assosiated fields.To present the origin of the beliefs and influences on Himmapan forests that affect the creation of Buddhist Lanna Art territory. To be guideline for studying and conservative practices development further.

The results of this study found that: The belief in Himmapan forest or baroque animals have many races and ideas that may come together by chance or influence each other in mentally. The craftsmanship and artistry of the decor is strange, the shape of human head looks like animals. There is evidence from the Egyptian Era.  Later generations in Greek appears in legendary baroque animals, Greek is the first nation that travels and connects Europe and Asia. So there is some exchanging ideas, beliefs in various fields that why baroque’s beliefs spread to Asia. India is the birthplace country of Asian art and culture. There are baroque animals associated with Thai art such as Garuda, Naga, etc. In Thailand, we believe in the monsters that come with Indian Buddhism. The obvious evidence of Himmapan creature,we also belief from Traibhumikatha (The story of the Three Planes of Existence)

The belief in Himmapan forests influence the way how to decorate the place with the Great Creatures. We believe that these animals are wonderful creatures with great power to protect religious buildings from various dangers. On the other side they look so beautiful like heaven that cause to lead people worship and faith then behave in morality. Buddhists belief in commitment merit as navigator to be born in the higher level future incarnation or finish round of existences, the ultimate goal to nirvana.
