พญานาคในเมืองเชียงตุง THE GREAT NAGA IN KENGTUNG

Abstract

    งานวิจัยเรื่องนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์ คือ 1. เพื่อศึกษาพญานาคในเมืองเชียงตุง 2. เพื่อวิเคราะห์ สังเคราะห์ ทัศนะพญานาคต่อวิถีชีวิตในเมืองเชียงตุง 3. เพื่อแสวงหาคติธรรมพญานาคที่มีต่อวิถีชีวิตในเมืองเชียงตุง ประชากรที่ศึกษา ได้แก่ พระนักเผยแผ่เขตลุ่มแม่น้ำโขงเมืองเชียงตุง 8 รูป และคฤหัสถ์ 2 คน จำนวนรวมทั้งสิ้น 10 คน ซึ่งเป็นผู้ที่อาศัยอยู่ในเมืองเชียงตุง และมีความรู้ด้านพุทธศาสนาและพญานาค เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในกาวิจัย แบบข้อมูลการสำรวจ และการสัมภาษณ์และการสนทนากลุ่ม และแบบการลงภาคสนาม ที่ผ่านการตรวจคุณภาพจากผู้เชี่ยวชาญแล้วจึงเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลภาคสนาม นำข้อมูลที่ได้มาตรวจสอบด้วยวิธีสามเส้า แล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์เชิงเนื้อหา

                ผลการวิจัย พบว่า พญานาคมีบทบาทความสำคัญต่อเชียงตุง พุทธศาสนา วัฒนธรรม และคติธรรม  ซึ่งเป็นเมืองที่มีความเชื่อเกี่ยวกับพญานาค มีความสำคัญกับสถานที่สำคัญ เช่น หนองตุงหรือวัดที่สำคัญ โดยพญานาคเชื่อว่าเป็นสัตว์พิเศษที่มีฤทธิ์มาก แต่ชาวเมืองเชียงตุงก็ไม่ได้เชื่อจนให้ความสำคัญหรือมีพิธีการบูชาแบบยิ่งใหญ่ ซึ่งพญานาคมีความเกี่ยวข้องกับพุทธศาสนามาตั้งแต่สมัยพุทธกาลจนถึงปัจจุบัน โดยเฉพาะในเรื่องของการบวชพระจะต้องมีสิ่งที่เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของนาค โดยเมืองเชียงตุงใช้การปั้นเทียนทองและเงินเป็นตัวรูปพญานาคแทนการแห่นาค มีวัฒนธรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับพญานาค ได้แก่ วัฒนธรรมการสร้างวัด เจดีย์ วิหาร การบวช จะต้องมีสิ่งแทนหรือสัญลักษณ์พญานาคปรากฏอยู่เสมอ โดยมากจะนิยมสร้างเป็นนาคคู่ พญานาคเป็นสัตว์พิเศษ ประเสริฐ มีอิทธิฤทธิ์ เป็นรูปแบบคติธรรมของการทำความดี เช่น สัจจะ และคอยพิทักษ์ปกป้องพุทธศาสนาเรื่อยมาทุกยุคทุกสมัย

       This research aims: 1. To study Payanakha (King of Nagas) in Kengtung District, 2. To analyze and synthesize viewpoint lifestyle of Payanakha in Kengtung District, and 3. To seek the moral teaching of the Payanakkha over the lifestyle in Kengtung District. The data are collected from 8 preacher monks in Kengtung District and 2 laypersons, altogether 10. All the informants have knowledge about Buddhism and Payyanakha. The data are collected by surveying information, interviewing, group discussing, and field surveying. Collected data are analyzed by triangulation and then analyze the content.

The research found that Payanakha plays a crucial role in Kengtung, Buddhism, Culture, and Morality. Some important places in this town holds the belief about Payanakha i.e., Nong Tung and important temples. We believed Payanakha is extraordinary animal with supernatural power. However, the Kengtung people don’t completely believe it just some that organize the great ceremony in the name of Payanakha. From Buddha’s era Payanakha is associated with Buddhism to present the particularly in matter ordination as monk. Person ordained as monk should have symbol of Payanakkha. In Kengtung, people use gold and silver candles to mold Payanakha. There are different culture associated with the Payanakha e.g. temple building, pagoda, and ordination. In these popular cultures, Payanakha always mold in pair, and also be special creature, Payanakha is outstanding with great power. Its symbolized morality of doing good deeds, truthfulness and guard Buddhism throughout forever and ever.
