The Buddhist Way of Sustainable Food Safety through Right Livelihood for Thai society

Abstract


This paper is a part of work on the thesis entitled “The Buddhist Way of Sustainable Food Safety through Right Livelihood”. The Buddhist way of sustainable food safety through Right Livelihood for Thai society is the system for physical and mental food safety. The food manufacturer, consumer and state personnel do their duty with Right Livelihood righteously and non-violently for their own and social benefits. The management of food safety is based on the following principles : (1) Dhamma leading Do's : the possession of right knowledge about food safety, natural way, duties and operational methods. (2) Do's in Dhamma : every step of operation is within Right Livelihood and the good friendship network. (3) Do's with Dhamma : all sectors are supportive and co-operate with compassion, discipline, sharing and persistence. To do one's duty with Right Livelihood, which is essential for Thai society, is to do it without meat and poison trade. The agriculture,  production and consumption of vegetarian and organic food, which is an important way forwarding to food safety, then, should be promoted
