Scenarios of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in the decade

Abstract


The purposes of this study were to analyze the preferable scenarios of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in year 2023. The process consisted of 4 stages including, 1) identifying the present status, events, and trends that emerged changes, 2) considering the impacts of those trends and events that affect the scenarios of the University in 2023, and 3) developing the alternative possible futures and preferable scenarios of the university in 2023, and 4) developing strategic planning policy to guide the university  to the preferable scenarios or the university in 2023 The sample group, twenty-two participants and five experts using in study was the present and former administrators, members, students, alumni and their employees, the expert in education.

The research finding revealed that the 4 missions of the University were teaching and learning, researching, serving public, and promoting art and culture. There were 5 important events and trends that might affected the University. These events induced 18 primary and 55 secondary impact events, but there were only 28 events that had high consistency. The interactions of these events developed 5 alterative scenarios of the University in 2023. The one which had medium impact and high opportunity to develop was chosen to create the preferable scenarios by using scenario logic. The 2 external driving forces, the competition of strength of the community and the use of educational technology, were combined the chosen alternative scenario; as a result, the 4 preferable scenarios of the University in 2023 were developed. The fourth preferable scenarios that needed to expedite was support of technology were high and  the strength the community. The 3 proposed policies for the university to lead to the fourth scenario were 1) promoting the products and services that increase the university reputation to increase the competitiveness of the university, 2) expanding the education provision into the region to strengthen the competitiveness at the international community of the university, and 3) enhancing the education provision by educational technology to expand the educational services.
