Hemp and Hmong Beliefs in Mae Sa Mai Village, Pong Yaeng Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province
Abstract
This research is a qualitative research having objective to study beliefs of Hmong on hemp in Mae Sa Mao village, Pong Yaeng Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai province. Data in this research derived from documents and field trip study, observation, interview intellectuals and community leaders.
The finding found that 1) Hmong traditions had the beliefs embed therefore in the important traditions must take hemp as a part of them. Hemp was a sign of beliefs of Hmong for a long time 2) Beliefs of Hmong on hemp were (1) illness, (2) evil exorcise, and (3) ancestral spirit. These beliefs appeared in Hmong traditions for the sake of safe and happy living.Keywords
